Continuing on my journey to update about 200 Ubuntu Touch apps from Xenial to Focal, I recently released two more apps on the open-store. Both of these apps were useful for me, and that is why I decided to do them next.
Of course, I forked the repositories, updated them and tested them on my Fair Phone 4, and made pull requests, of which you can see here:
After about a week of waiting, and nothing heard from the original developer, I went ahead and used my fork to make a new release on the open-store for these apps. Ironically, the day after I released my apps, both of these developers reached out to me, letting me know that they would be updating their apps.
While this is great, it did mean that I needed to take my app down from the open-store. I was glad to do so, but it was a bummer to do the work of submitting the app only to pull it shortly afterwards. This has lead me to slow down on releasing my own fork of apps to give developers more time to respond.
That said, it was great the 'mikey00', the creator of the Chess Clock app, will also be updating his other apps. I had already made a pull request for each of his apps, but so far he has not accepted any of them, as I am sure he is just taking time to go through them.
While I have slowed down in releasing the apps to the open-store, I have not slowed down in forking, updating, and pull requesting the apps. If you want to follow along with my journey, here is a little table of my progress so far:
Apps | Numbers |
---|---|
Released on Open-Store | 10 |
Updated to Focal | 25 |
Cannot Update | 20 |
Total | 199 |
Percentage complete | 22.6% |
Linux - keep it simple.
